Lisbon, 27 April 2025 – The Portuguese Basketball Federation and Betclic, official sponsor of the Men's and Women's Basketball Leagues since 2021, have distinguished and rewarded the best profiles of the 2024/2025 season. The Liga Betclic Awards 2025 took place this Sunday at the Alfândega do Porto, in the presence of the Secretary of State for Sport and prominent figures from national sports, such as Ticha Penicheiro, Hall of Famer of the WNBA, and Ricardinho, one of the greatest players in the history of futsal.
The event celebrated the athletes, coaches, and referees who stood out the most in the men's and women's Betclic Leagues during the season, with the usual focus on the “Career,” “Excellence,” and “Tribute” awards, presented to Fernando Rocha, Olímpio Coelho, and Teresa Barata, respectively. Athlete Rebecca Taylor, from Basquete Barcelos HMMotor, was the most awarded of the night, winning – as she did last year – the awards for MVP, Top Scorer, and Best Rebounder of the Liga Betclic Feminine. The full list of winners can be found below.
For Tiago Simões, Country Manager of Betclic, “The Liga Betclic Awards are proof that Portuguese basketball is increasingly vibrant, competitive, and recognized. This growth is the result of collective work, undertaken with vision, consistency, and passion. For Betclic, supporting this evolution and contributing to it, hand in hand with the Federation, is a motivation to continue investing in the discipline and, above all, to reaffirm a commitment that defines us: to support national basketball fairly, valuing talent without distinction.”
Manuel Fernandes, President of the Portuguese Basketball Federation, adds that “it is always a very special event; it is the recognition of those who make basketball both a passion and a profession. The path traveled together by the Federation and Betclic, and the results achieved, speak for themselves. It is a source of pride to see the discipline continually bringing together more talents, more public, and more visibility.”
