Lisbon, 31 October 2025 – A world premiere, a full house, and strong emotions on the agenda. The documentary Feel the Magic: Ticha Penicheiro — Against All Odds, a tribute to one of the greatest figures in Portuguese basketball and current ambassador of Liga Betclic, closed the evening of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa.

Directed by André Braz, this documentary celebrates the journey of the athlete who dared to dream and built a leading international career in the WNBA. Against all odds, Ticha Penicheiro has left her mark on the sport, in Portugal and around the world, being considered one of the best players in the Women’s National Basketball Association.

This year, the festival has been enriched with a new cinema: The Chapel by Betclic, located in the chapel of the Convento do Beato. Until 1 November, visitors will be able to attend exclusive film previews in a completely renovated space revealed for the first time to the public, featuring films that promise to shape the cinematic landscape of 2025.

After a standing ovation from the entire audience at The Chapel by Betclic, the greatest Portuguese basketball player of all time did not hide her emotion: “a little girl from Figueira da Foz who succeeded in going to the United States and having the career I’ve had… I hope to be an example for all those, girls and boys, who want to pursue their dreams. I am very proud,” said Ticha Penicheiro.

Betclic is much more than a sports betting site, and we believe that entertainment and inspiration go hand in hand. We will always support projects like the Tribeca Festival, which nurture the passion of athletes, fans, and communities,” emphasizes Tiago Simões, Country Manager of Betclic. “This sponsorship is a natural extension of our investment in Betclic Studios, our segment entirely dedicated to content production, from short films to feature films, that tell the stories of people defying the odds,” he adds.

For Mónica Serrano, Marketing and Communication Director of IMPRESA, “The story of Ticha Penicheiro is a powerful testament to overcoming oneself and inspiration, and it is with great honor that we partner with Betclic for the presentation of this documentary at the Tribeca Festival Lisboa. We believe in the power of stories that inspire and transform, and this is, without a doubt, one such example.

Between today and tomorrow, the programming of The Chapel by Betclic notably includes the series Sandokan: The Pirate Prince, featuring Can Yaman and Ed Westwick, as well as the film Eleanor the Great, by Scarlett Johansson, among other works.
